UltiMaker launched its professional-grade S5 3D printer in 2018, followed by the S7 and, just months ago, the S8. Today, the company continues its S Series with the announcement of the UltiMaker S6. Designed for cost-effective and high-performance 3D printing in manufacturing, defense, and education (presumably university or higher), the printer aims to support industrial applications requiring reliability and scalability.
Core Features & Design Philosophy
The S6 is engineered to help users efficiently scale production, developed for manufacturing teams, engineers, and maintenance personnel who need reliable prints for on-demand repairs, functional prototyping, and production parts. UltiMaker states the system offers ease of use, technical performance, flexibility, high speed, and cost-effectiveness. It is fully backward compatible with the popular S5, and for added versatility, print core heads, materials, the Air Manager, and Material Station are interchangeable across the entire S Series.
” The S6 is designed to give our users more—higher speeds, more versatility, and greater freedom—without starting from scratch, ” explains Marc Uyttenboogaard, Product Manager at UltiMaker. ” We’ve kept everything users love about the S5 and made it better, while ensuring backward compatibility to protect customers’ investments long-term. “

Operational Advantages & Ecosystem Integration
To prevent large manufacturing operations from pausing production to recreate S5 files for the S6, UltiMaker enables reuse of previously sliced parts. The new printer’s ecosystem and interface will be familiar to S5 users, minimizing the learning curve. A standout feature is an extended warranty— the first UltiMaker printer to offer 24 months, double the standard coverage (note: warranty terms may vary by region; customers should consult authorized dealers for details).
” The S6 delivers the speed and reliability we need, backed by the assurance of a well-integrated, proven ecosystem, ” says Sophie Grebert, Owner of French 3D printing service DP3D. ” It’s become a valuable and efficient part of our daily operations, alongside our recent UltiMaker S8 purchase. “
Performance Enhancements
UltiMaker boosts productivity with the new UltiMaker Cheetah motion planner, enabling print speeds up to 500 mm/s and acceleration up to 50,000 mm/s². This planner intelligently optimizes every S6 movement, making it 4x faster than the S5. Efficiency is further enhanced by UltiMaker’s dual-extrusion capability (enabling easy multi-material printing), with both high-flow print heads supported by a single material system to maximize uptime.
Manufactured in UltiMaker’s Netherlands facility—certified by BSI Group to ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management)—the S6 aligns with strict standards for high-performance industries like aerospace, defense, and automotive.
” We’re excited about the UltiMaker S6, ” says Erik Schwartz, Owner/Driver of Schwartz Off Road Motorsportz in Wisconsin. ” It has the same manufacturing quality and reliability we’ve grown accustomed to over five years with our S5 printers. Meanwhile, the S6’s faster print speeds mean we can act more quickly and flexibly. Downtime is harmful to our fast-paced design process—our team doesn’t have days to wait for prints or complex repairs. This lets us squeeze in one more design iteration before heading to weekend races. “

Build Plates & Material Ecosystem
The S6 ships with two build plates: a PEI-coated flexible plate for versatile applications and a glass plate for prints requiring higher hygiene standards, such as medical devices or food packaging components. Supporting over 300 materials, it seamlessly integrates with all UltiMaker ecosystem components—powered by the UltiMaker Digital Factory and Cura software. Cura Cloud via Digital Factory allows users to slice, manage, and print from anywhere, streamlining workflows across teams and time zones.
” This launch comes at a time when customers face pressure to ‘do more with less,’ delivering exceptional value, ” concludes Andy Middleton, SVP of EMEA & Global Marketing at UltiMaker. ” With the S6, UltiMaker reaffirms its mission: to make professional 3D printing more accessible, adaptable, and future-proof than ever before. “
